Story Starts, Middles, and Ends
In a Nutshell: Student have 20 minutes to write the beginning to a story.
Typically, this works the best when people are willing to try and fail. Fear of failure and being bad at something is often what prevents people from becoming good at something in the first place. In order to get through this, we recommend starting this by having students write 10 dramatic / crazy opening sentences for a story.
Afterward, they can choose to start writing a story with any one of the sentences they just came up with, or they can start from scratch again. They can start anywhere in a book, choosing to write a climax, the beginning, or a middle of a book.

The best advice I have for finishing a novel is to continue writing.
Just like climbing, a large writing project can be summited by writing consistently. By blocking out time in the day,
Story Start: “Are you crazy? Bob whispered, incredulously.
Sarah looked at him reproachfully, her brilliant hazel eyes staring into his. disappointment like a hurt puppy. “Well if you don’t want to do it, then, fine. But I’m still going to do it. I’m not chicken.”
Bob stared at Sarah. Don't do it. Don't do it!
Story Start: What do you get when you mix a chemistry lab with a perfectly explosive day? You got it. KA BOOM.
Story Start: Today is a perfectly normal day. You suspect nothing at all. Nothing outside of the usual. Your morning routine feels 100% normal.

My stomach gives out. Another crumpled piece of paper is sitting in the bottom of my locker. Automatically, I reach out to grab it and smooth it out so that I can read the maniac’s 4th note.
